2014 June/July NECO Result is Out

The 2014 NECO June/July has been released!
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has
announced that 52.29 percent of the candidates
that sat for June/July 2014 Senior Secondary
School Certificate Examination (SSCE) passed at
credit level in five subjects, including English
Language and mathematics.


The Registrar and Chief Executive officer of the
Council, Professor Promise Okpala, who announced
the result in Minna, said 74.30 percent of the
candidates made five credits and above generally.
He said that 978,886 candidates of the 989,622
that registered sat for the examination, which was
conducted in 76 subjects.


Of 989,622 candidates that wrote the examination,
72.58 percent scored credit level and above in
English Language, while 69.49 percent made similar
grades in mathematics.
In sciences, 72.86 percent of candidates that sat
for Chemistry had credits, while 69.38 percent of
physics candidates had credit levels and in biology
67.83 percent of the candidates made credit
grades.


Okpala said that beyond the cost of running the
examination, insecurity in many parts of the
country grossly affected the logistic operations of
the council during the school based examination.
The registrar also said that efforts of the council
at reducing examination malpractices paid off as
only 0.44 percent of those who sat for the
examination were involved in malpractices.

2014 May/June WAEC Result Is Out

 

No fewer than 1,426,926 candidates have their chances of securing university admission in the country this year dashed as they failed to obtain the basic entry requirement.

The candidates obtained only two credits in the May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination released by the West African Examinations Council on Monday.

The Head, National Office of WAEC, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced the release of the results in Lagos.

The candidates, he said, constituted 84.31 per cent of the total candidates who sat for the examination.

According to him, 1,692,435 candidates, comprising 929,075 males and 763,360 females, sat for the examinations in the country.

To secure admission in the nation’s university, a candidate is required to have at least, credit passes in five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics in WASSCE or the National Examinations Council.

Eguridu, who admitted that there was a marginal decline in the performance of the candidates this year unlike in the last two years, added that 145,795 candidates, representing 8.61 per cent had their results withheld for alleged examination malpractice.

Giving further breakdown, the HNO noted that 1,293,389 candidates, representing 76.42 per cent, obtained credits and above in three subjects, while 1,148,262 candidates, representing 67.84 per cent, obtained credits and above in four subjects.

He added, “Of the total number of candidates that sat the examination, 791,227 candidates, representing 46.75 per cent obtained six credits and above, while 982,472 candidates representing 58.05 per cent, obtained five credits and above.

“A total of 529,425 candidates, representing 31.28 per cent, obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. When compared to the 2012 and 2013 May/June WASSCE diets, there is marginal decline in the performance of candidates.”

On the withheld results, Eguridu said, their cases were being investigated and that the reports would be presented in November to the Nigeria examinations Committee for consideration.

The HNO, who urged candidates to check details of their results online in the next 24 hours, added that 150 blind candidates sat for the examination.

According to him, 21 of them, representing 14 per cent obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics.

JAMB Official Cut-off Marks 2014

The long awaited 2014 JAMB Cut off mark was yesterday announced after the 5th Combined Policy meeting on admissions to tertiary institutions, held at the National Universities Commission, Abuja.

The cut off marked for 2014 admissions into universities was fixed at 180, while that of polytechnics and colleges of education was fixed at 150.

The Supervising Minister of education, Nyesom Wike frowned at the fact that some institutions did not utilize fully the quota given to them last year which consequently denied some candidates admission. He described this a s a great disservice to the Nigerian child.

The JAMB Registrar, Dibu Ojerinde gave a statistical break down of candidates’ preference for tertiary education as follows; degree awarding institutions totalled 1,584,348, representing 70 per cent; National Certificate in Education applicants totalled 25,767 representing 1.6 per cent; National Diploma, a paltry 22,072, representing 1.3 per cent while National Innovation Diploma had just 46, representing 0.003 per cent.
