The meeting scheduled yesterday which was to involve ASUP executives,
Joint committee of the National Assembly representing the Federal
Government; Ministries of education, finance and labour in a bid to
resolve the protracted ASUP strike suffered a setback as the Federal
Government’s delegation never turned up.
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Uche Chukwumerije
expressed his disappointment over lack of willingness on the part of the
Federal Government to negotiate with the Leadership of ASUP.
He called on the Lecturers to maintain their struggle in ensuring that the nation’s education sector doesn’t suffer again.
It was learned that ASUP had reduced their demands from 10 to 2 and
would have called off the strike only if the federal government
delegation has turned up.
